Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: The Symptoms & Treatment

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is one type of cancer that originates in your lymphatic system and gets spread throughout your body. In this cancer, the tumors get developed from lymphocytes which are a type of white blood cells.

It is more common than the other general type of lymphoma — Hodgkin lymphoma. There are many different subtypes of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma that exist. The most common subtypes are the follicular lymphoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

There are many advancements done for treating this disease and a lot of research has been going on so that the health of the patients gets improved. The symptoms of this disease are as follows:

• Abdominal pain or swelling

• Chest pain, coughing or trouble breathing

• Painless, swollen lymph nodes in your neck

• Persistent fatigue

• Night Sweats

• Unexplained weight loss

• Fever

Now, let us have a look at the causes of this disease. In some of the cases, the disease is caused due to the weakened immune system but in most cases, even the doctors are unable to find out what are its causes. The disease begins when your body produces too many abnormal lymphocytes which are a type of white blood cell.

Normally, these white blood cells called the lymphocytes go through a predictable life cycle. The old lymphocytes die and they are newly created by your body for replacing the dead ones.

In this disease, the lymphocytes don't die but they continue to grow and divide.

Now, talking about the treatment of this disease, it depends on the type and stage of the disease and your overall health.

If the lymphoma appears to be slow growing then the wait and see approach will be the best option. The indolent lymphomas that don’t see any signs and symptoms may not require the treatment for years.

So, this was an overview of the Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma disease, its symptoms, and causes. Stage 3 non hodgkin's lymphoma survival rate is less so you must get it checked at the earliest stage.
